Your Tour Guides

Bill Becker, the tenacious and spectacular stay at home Dad of one very adorable little boy. He slices, he dices, he cooks dinner, washes dishes and cleans litter by day. By night he’s the master of video games, the sultan of mathematical equations and the keeper of all things science.

Kim Spencer, the hard-working, always on the go way too often Mom of one mischievous and energetic padawon learner. Web designer by day, Mommy, writer, artist and college professor by night.

Together, the wonder twins take on the form of a useful guide for people like us.

Essentially, we grew tired of hunting for online resources of family restaurants that had something other than Shoney’s and corporate food chains. We live in the city because we like it here. We love the eateries and the hidden parks tucked away on side streets no one ever drives down. With the new smoking ban, restaurants that were once deemed avoidable are now opening their doors to the child inhabiting world. The last substantial article written on kid friendly places in Richmond was 2005. A lot has changed since then. A lot has changed since we first arrived in Richmond in 1990 and 1993. Places were forgotten and others went unnoticed. Now we see the city from a pair of new little eyes and what a fascinating journey it is.

Our goal is to provide the resource that we couldn’t find. We all know what the Applebee’s of the world are like for families, but what about the hidden gems? What about the hidden parks? The diner down the street or the cafe around the corner? It’s the end of the month, I’m broke and we need to get out of the house. Where should we go? It’s hot out, who has rocking a/c and an area the kids can crawl or run around?

These are the answers we seek. What are your questions?
